HP SET: Himachal Pradesh State Eligibility Test

The State Eligibility Test (SET) is conducted by the Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (HPPSC) to provide lectureship or Junior Research Fellowship to the eligible candidates who wish to become an assistant professor or Lecturer in various colleges, universities and other educational institutes within the state of Himachal Pradesh (HP).

HP SET Eligibility Criteria

  1. There is no upper age limit for candidates appearing in HP SET.

  2. Candidates should atleast score a minimum of 55% marks (50% for Other Backward Classes (OBC) belonging to non-creamy layer / Scheduled Caste (SC)/Scheduled Tribe (ST)/ Physically Handicapped (PH)/ Visually Handicapped) in their Master’s or other equivalent examination from a recognised universities/institutions.

  3. Candidates in their final year of masters are also eligible to appear. However, such candidates will only be admitted provisionally and shall be considered eligible for Assistant Professor only if they score a minimum of 55% marks (50% marks in case of Other Backward Classes (OBC) belonging to non-creamy layer / SC/ST/PH/VH category candidates) in their master’s or other equivalent examination from a recognised universities/institutions.

  4. Candidates who have a Ph.D. degree and whose Master’s level examination had been completed by 19th September, 1991 (irrespective of date of declaration of result) shall be eligible for a relaxation of 5% in aggregate marks (i.e., from 55% to 50%) for appearing in the HP SET Examination.

  5. Candidates are required to appear for HP SET only in the subject where they have done their Post-Graduation.

  6. Candidates who are in their first year of post-graduation are not eligible to appear for HP SET.

  7. The reserved category candidates belonging to SC / ST / PH / VH / OBC must possess a Valid Category Certificate issued by competent authority of Himachal Pradesh state and certificates related to PH / VH.

  8. After clearing the HP SET, the HP SET Agency will only issue certificates to the qualifying candidates only after the verification of the Eligibility Documents immediately after the result of the HP SET Examination.

EXEMPTION/ ELIGIBILITY FOR ASSISTANT PROFESSOR (s)
  1. Candidates, who are or have been awarded a Ph.D. Degree in accordance with the University Grants Commission Regulations, 2009, shall be exempted from the requirement of the minimum eligibility condition of NET/SELT/SET for recruitment and appointment of Assistant Professor(s) or equivalent positions in Universities/ Colleges/ Institutions.

  2. Candidates who have cleared the State Eligibility Test (SET) accredited by UGC for eligibility for Assistant Professor held prior to 1st June 2002, are exempted from appearing in NET, being eligible to apply for Assistant Professor anywhere in India. For SET held from 1st June 2002 onwards, the qualified candidates are eligible to apply for the post of Assistant Professor only in the universities/ colleges belonging to the state from where they have cleared their SET.

Himachal Pradesh SET Application Process

  1. Candidates are required to apply online by visiting the official website http://hp.gov.in/hppsc/

  2. Candidate has to upload his / her scanned recent passport size photograph in JPEG format with 140 X 160 pixels dimension and the file size should not more than 100 kb. Fill up the application form with all appropriate details and submit it online. After the successful submission and confirmation, the candidates are suggested to take a printout of filled online Application Form and Computerised Bank Challan on A-4 size paper only for future reference.

  3. The application process is finally complete with the payment of application fees

  4. Candidates can download the Bank Challan from the official website to pay examination fee.

HP SET Exam Pattern

The question paper for HP SET will comprise of three compulsory papers having objective type questions:
Paper I
Paper-I will be of general nature, which accesses the research/teaching aptitude of the candidate. It will primarily be designed to test the general awareness, divergent thinking, comprehension and reasoning ability of the candidate.
Total Marks: 100
No. of Question: 50 questions to be attempted out of 60
Question Type: Objective
Duration: 75 Minutes (10 AM to 11.15 AM)

Paper II
Paper II will be of the subjects selected by the candidate.
Total Marks: 100 (2 marks each)
No. of Question: 50 Compulsory questions
Question Type: Objective
Duration: 75 Minutes (11.30 AM to 12.45 PM)

Paper III
Paper III will be of the subjects selected by the candidate.
Total Marks: 100
No. of Question: 75 Compulsory questions
Question Type: Objective
Duration: 150 Minutes (2.30PM to 5. 00 PM)

N.B.: There is no negative marking for any incorrect answers.
