Education Profile of Himachal Pradesh
Himachal has a good tradition of excellent teaching coming down from the British times. Since Shimla was the summer capital of the state and the state on the whole was directly under the British rule, it has some of the best schools of the country. Most of the schools of Himachal Pradesh are affiliated to either CBSE or state board. Few schools are also affiliated to ICSE. The board has its administrative offices at Dharamshala and was established in 1969. The schools affiliated to the board are nearly 8000. Board, every year conducts examinations of more than 5, 00,000 examinees with 1650 centers of examination. Himachal boasts of some of the best boarding schools not only in the country but also of the world. These world class boarding schools receives students from all the country and outside. Some of the important boarding schools include Lawrence School, Sanawar, Bishop Cotton School, Pinegrove School, and Auckland House School.
Higher Education in Himachal
Higher Education in Himachal is also noteworthy. Some of the reputed institutes providing quality education in Himachal Pradesh are Himachal Pradesh University (HPU), Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) at Mandi and NIT (National Institute of Technology) at Hamirpur.
Himachal Pradesh has got its one and only Homeopathic Hospital and Medical College having all the educational facilities in Homeopathic stream. This college was founded by the Health Trust of India, registered as a charitable trust in HP state, in 2002.
Jaypee Group operates a private University of Information Technology which was opened in 2002. There are two new private universities namely Chitkara University and Eternal University which started its operations in 2008.The Eternal University is at district Sirmaur of Himachal Pradesh and Akal nursing college also established in 2008 is affiliated to this University. Government engineering college in the name of our first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru was established at Sundernagar in 2006 by the state government.
